LANDON BACK FOR ANOTHER BLOG
From the Desk of Bruce Landon - February 16, 2009 - 2:15 pm
On behalf of my organization, I want to apologize to our great fans for the situation we are in relative to the standings. It is certainly not what we expected or what you deserve.
We worked very hard during the off-season to build our season ticket base and thanks to your support we were able to reach our goals. We have worked as hard at our group sales and on our promotions and game night entertainment.
We have increased our attendance by almost 28% over last season and our group sales going into this past weekend were up 17%. These numbers are extremely important as we continue the challenges of keeping professional hockey in Springfield.
We started off well this season and got out of the gate with a respectable record. However, we hit a slide in December that we have not been able to recover from. We have played well at times but still have not won. We have not been getting blown out of games, but we simply have not been able to produce enough offense to support the great efforts by our goaltenders.
The Edmonton Oilers have made a couple of moves to try and help the situation, but even that has not produced the results we were hoping for. As I write this blog we have 26 games remaining in the season. All we can hope for is that the team finds a way to put some wins on the board and that they have enough pride in their performance to work hard every single game the rest of the year.
Very soon we will be embarking on our season ticket campaign for next year. We are faced with tough economic times and another losing season. We realize the challenges that lie ahead, but we will continue our best efforts to keep Falcons hockey as affordable as possible.
Our goal is the same as it was last February when we started our season ticket campaign. We will work hard to keep building our fan base, so that we can continue to enjoy the entertainment value of professional hockey in Springfield.
I will be working on dealing with the many hockey issues that lie ahead. This year has not been good enough and although I won’t make any promises, I will commit to you that every option will be explored.
Thanks for your support of the team under very tough circumstances.
Sincerely,
Bruce
