FALCONS SHUT DOWN BY WOLF PACK

March 21, 2009 - The Springfield Falcons had their four-game point streak snapped on Saturday night losing 7-2 to the Hartford Wolf Pack in front of 6,336 at the MassMutual Center.  The Falcons will finish off a busy home weekend on Sunday when they host the Worcester Sharks starting at 4 pm.

SATURDAY'S BOX SCORE

The Falcons fell behind early on this night and the Wolf Pack never let up in building an early first period advantage.  Brodie Dupont opened the scoring just 2:00 into the first period giving Hartford a 1-0 advantage, followed by Dale Weise giving the Pack a 2-0 lead through 20 minutes of play.

In the second period, Hartford continued to build on their lead when Vladimir Denisov tallied his third goal of the year at 7:46 giving the Pack a 3-0 cushion.  Just 10-seconds after Denisov's goal, Charles Linglet cut Springfield's deficit to 3-1 with his seventh marker on the campaign.  Late in the second period, Hartford regained complete control of the game when Jared Nightingale and Corey Potter scored just 27-seconds apart in giving the Wolf Pack a 5-1 lead through 40 minutes of play.

In the third period, Hartford built a 7-1 advantage when Weise scored his second goal of the game, followed by Artem Anisimov less than five minutes into the final period.  Springfield's Ryan Potulny tallied his 30th goal of the year late in the third period marking the first Falcons player to notch 30 goals in a season since Jean-Guy Trudel tallied 34 in 2000-01.

GAME NOTES

The Falcons announced this morning that they have recalled defenseman Cleve Kinley and forward Cory Urquhart from their ECHL affiliate, the Stockton Thunder.  Kinley has played in one game for the Falcons this year, while Urquhart has appeared in six games with Springfield.

Late in the second period, Colin McDonald received a major for kneeing in a collision with Hartford goaltender Miika Wiikman, followed by McDonald dropping the gloves with Hartford's Mark Bell.

In the third period, Ryan O'Marra and Jordan Owens dropped the gloves after Owens hit Springfield's Taylor Chorney hard behind the Falcons' net.
