SECOND BALL HOCKEY CHALLENGE A HUGE SUCCESS

June 26, 2009 - For the second time this off-season, the Springfield Falcons hosted a Ball Hockey Challenge at Amelia Park in Westfield, MA and for the second straight game, it was an entertaining contest and everyone involved had a lot of fun.  Members of the Falcons staff, along with assistant coach Gerry Fleming, and some Falcons Alumni battled the Westfield Youth Hockey coaches on Thursday, June 25 with the Westfield coaches earning the 8-6 win.

"It was a great event and we thank the Westfield Youth Hockey coaches for all of their support," said Falcons manager of media relations Damon Markiewicz.  "We obviously would have liked the win, but it was a lot of fun to build our relationship with Westfield Youth Hockey and it was great so many of our fans attended as well."

Not only did Fleming and the Falcons front office staff attend, but former Falcons forward Scott Daniels and former radio voice and current St. Louis Blues radio broadcaster Chris Kerber were in the lineup.  Westfield Youth Hockey Vice President Bobby Jacques led the coaches to the victory.  The Falcons and coaches also helped collect food items during the evening that will be donated to a local food bank.

"I think both of these events have been a great way to build our community relations and we are looking to host maybe one more before we get ready for the hockey season," said Markiewicz.  "A special thank you goes out to referee Jay Denver and everyone who helped make this event a success."
