SCREECH HELPS OUT AT SOUTHWICK BBQ
July 12, 2009 – In an effort to enjoy a sunny afternoon in Western MA, the Springfield Falcons and their mascot "Screech" participated in the 2nd Annual Southwick BBQ Challenge at the Southwick Recreation Center on Sunday, July 12. The Falcons teamed up with the Cow Pucks BBQ Team, a group consisting of Westfield Youth Hockey coaches and their families.
"We want to thank the members of Westfield Youth Hockey who invited us to be a part of this fun day," said Falcons manager of media relations Damon Markiewicz, who attended the event along with Screech. "We were able to raise some money for Westfield Youth Hockey and also enjoy a perfect day of sunshine and BBQ with individuals who support the Falcons each and every season."
Individuals attending this special event were able to sample the multiple food choices the Cow Pucks Team offered. Anyone who made a donation to Westfield Youth Hockey also had a chance to take part in the "Shoot on Screech" promotion with families winning prizes from the Falcons if they were fortunate enough to score a goal on the Falcons' famous mascot.
“Screech played well in goal, but there were a lot of goals scored," said Markiewicz. "As always, the kids loved hanging out and obviously they were thrilled Screech attended the BBQ."
Not only did families have a chance to eat some good food, there was also a baseball game of Southwick volunteers against the Westfield WheelmenVintage Baseball Team in accordance to the rules of 1861. Throughout the day, there was also music, food and other vendors, children’s activities as well as samples of BBQ and chili from the competitors.
