FALCONS FALL TO BRUINS 6-2

October 4, 2009 - The Springfield Falcons lost to the Providence Bruins 6-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, RI evening their season record at 1-1.  The Falcons will now be off until they head to Adirondack on Friday night. 

The Falcons opened the scoring at 7:34 of the first period when Chris Minard scored on the power play.  Providence would tie the score less than a minute later when Brad Marchand tallied his first marker of the year at 8:20 of the opening session.

Providence would take a 2-1 lead at 16:25 of the opening frame when Jeff LoVecchio scored his first goal of the year.  Late in the first period, Dean Arsene squared off with Guillaume Lefebvre, followed by Jake Taylor and Adam McQuaid dropping the gloves. Taylor and McQuaid each received game misconducts as they were the second fight after the original altercation between Arsene and Lefebvre.

In the second period, Providence quickly expanded their lead as Andy Wozniewski scored just 4:59 into the middle period, followed by Marchand's second marker of the game just 15-seconds later giving the Bruins a 4-1 cushion.  Providence took a 5-1 lead at 17:30 of the second period when Trent Whitfield scored on the power play, but Ryan O'Marra brought Springfield back to within 5-2 when he scored just 29-seconds later, a shorthanded goal set up by Johan Motin.
