FALCONS SUFFER 7-2 LOSS IN WORCESTER
December 26, 2009 - The Springfield Falcons lost to the Worcester Sharks 7-2 at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA on Saturday night. The Falcons earned the period's first two power plays, but it was Worcester's Benn Ferriero who opened the scoring at 6:23 of the first period with a shorthanded goal, followed by Dan DaSilva converting at 10:10 of the first period giving the Sharks a 2-0 advantage. The Sharks took a 3-0 lead at 16:29 of the opening session when Steven Zalewski scored on the power play.
Springfield's Geoff Paukovich and Worcester's Brandon Mashinter dropped the gloves early in the first period with each player earning a fighting major.
In the second period, Worcester expanded their lead to 5-0 with goals from Logan Couture and Joe Callahan, but Springfield cut their deficit to 5-1 when Bill Thomas tallied his fifth goal of the year at 17:28 of the middle frame.
Worcester continued to build on their lead in the third period as John McCarthy scored just 26-seconds into the final frame giving the Sharks a 6-1 advantage. Ferriero scored his second marker of the contest at 6:05 of the final period before Springfield's Taylor Chorney concluded the scoring with his third goal of the year.
