The Falcons fell behind 2-0 in the opening period with Norfolk receiving goals from Ryan Craig and Mark Parrish within the first seven minutes of the first period. Parrish's goal was shorthanded as he ended up on a two-on-zero breakaway with Dana Tyrell. Tyrell assisted on both Norfolk goals in the first period.
The Falcons cut their deficit to 2-1 with just 31-seconds remaining in the opening frame when Chris Armstrong tipped in a Taylor Chorney shot from the point on the power play.
The two teams played a scoreless second period, but the period didn't lack action and energy. The teams exchanged power play opportunities and scoring chances. The Falcons ended up on a five-on-three penalty kill less than a minute into the second period, but the Falcons penalty killing unit did a great job killing it off. Falcons goaltender Devan Dubnyk was very steady in the middle period making 23 saves, including a handful point-blank Norfolk scoring chances.
Falcons captain Dean Arsene and Admirals captain Ryan Craig dropped the gloves midway through the second period picking up fighting majors.
Brandon Bochenski added an insurance goal for Norfolk in the third period.

PRE-GAME UPDATES
The Springfield Falcons arrived in Norfolk, Virginia on Thursday for their weekend series against the Admirals starting on Friday night at the Scope Arena. The Falcons hit the road on Thursday morning and after roughly 10 hours of bus time, the team settled in and prepared for Friday's contest.
During the bus ride down to Norfolk on Thursday, some of the classic hockey movies were featured including "Youngblood" and "Slap Shot." Ok, only one of those movies is a classic, but they were both featured during the ride. "Hangover" was also shown, which was a very good flick.
The weather is perfect in Norfolk this weekend with no snow remaining on the ground from the 10 inches they received as part of a storm a couple weeks back. Temps are in the mid-50's with not a cloud in the sky.
The Falcons held their morning skate at the Scope Arena on Friday. After the morning skate, the team headed to Baxter's for a team lunch before heading back to the hotel for some rest before game time.
Kip Brennan and Alex Plante are the only two players not on the trip. Both players are out of the lineup due to injury.
