McDONALD HONORED FOR COMMUNITY WORK

McDONALD NAMED SPRINGFIELD FALCONS’ 2009-10
AMERICAN SPECIALTY/AHL MAN OF THE YEAR

March 26, 2010 – The Springfield Falcons are proud to announce that right wing Colin McDonald has been named the team’s winner of the American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Springfield community during the 2009-10 season.

McDonald was one of the Falcons’ key contributors in their community efforts during the 2009-10 season.  He assisted with a variety of events during the season including:  joining the New England Farm Workers’ Council / School Based Mentoring Program.  McDonald volunteered weekly during the season to be a mentor for a local youngster in the Greater Springfield area.  On multiple occasions during the year, McDonald hosted post-game autograph sessions for youngsters and he was also a regular contributor to the Falcons’ live web chats during the season.

In recognition of his efforts, McDonald will be presented with an etched crystal trophy during an on-ice presentation prior to an upcoming Falcons home game.

McDonald is now one of 29 finalists for the AHL’s 2009-10 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League in the coming weeks.
