FALCONS FALL TO MONARCHS 4-2
March 16, 2011 - The Springfield Falcons lost to the Manchester Monarchs 4-2 on Wednesday night in Manchester, NH. Manchester used a shorthanded goal and a power play marker in building a three goal advantage through 40 minutes of play.
Dwight King opened the scoring for the Monarchs with his 21st goal of the year at 5:41 of the first period. In the second period, Oscar Moller tallied a shorthanded goal at 4:11 of the middle session, followed by Brandon Kozun converting on the power play at 15:29 giving the Monarchs a 3-0 lead through 40 minutes of play.
In the third period, Moller added his second goal of the game giving Manchester a 4-0 lead, but Springfield's Steven Goertzen and Petr Kalus scored in the game's final three minutes cutting the Falcons' deficit to 4-2.

PRE-GAME NOTES: The Falcons are 3-6 against the Monarchs this season, including 1-3 in Manchester this year. Since January 1, the two teams have exchanged wins with Springfield beating Manchester 3-1 on January 1, followed by the Monarchs defeating the Falcons 5-3 on February 13. Springfield came back and beat Manchester 5-4 on February 18, but the Monarchs rebounded on February 22 and beat Springfield 5-0.
Ben Guite has been the Falcons leader in scoring against the Monarchs this year with three goals and four assists for seven points in eight games and a +7 rating. Kyle Wilson has also been productive collecting two goals and one assist in just three games.
Manchester rookie Brandon Kozun has been hot against the Falcons this year with five goals and three assists for eight points in eight games, along with Oscar Moller, who has the same totals in just seven games.
Springfield's Tomas Kubalik is currently fourth in the AHL in rookie scoring with 21 goals and 23 assists for 44 points in 66 games. Kubalik leads the Falcons in scoring this year, as well as leading the club in power play goals with six.
Manchester's Brandon Kozun is fifth in the league in rookie scoring with 20 goals and 22 assists for 42 points in 62 games played.
