Springfield, MA – The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today their 2011-12 regular season schedule. The Falcons will play an unbalanced 76-game schedule, 38 home games and 38 road games. Springfield will play in the five-team Northeast Division located within the Eastern Conference.
The Falcons will open their 18th AHL season with three straight road games starting on Friday, October 7 at Manchester, followed by a visit to Albany on Saturday, October 8 and Wilkes-Barre on Friday, October 14. Springfield will return home the next night to host the Providence Bruins in their home opener on Saturday, October 15 at the MassMutual Center.
“We are very pleased once again with the final schedule,” said Falcons President and General Manager Bruce Landon. “It is never perfect as the League has a difficult job to do in trying their best to assist all 30 teams in the League. However, we have 36 of our home games that will be played on either a Friday, Saturday or Sunday which is something we are excited about as we plan for opening night.”
The Falcons will once again play a majority of their home games on weekend dates, including 12 Friday games, 14 home contests on Saturdays and 10 games on Sundays. Starting times for home games this season will once again be 7:30 pm for Friday contests, 7:00 pm for games Monday-Thursday and Saturday, and a 3:00 pm starting time for Sunday matinees.
The Falcons’ busiest stretch of games at home will occur when they play six straight contests at the MassMutual Center starting on October 28 and concluding on November 16. Springfield’s longest road trip of the campaign will be five straight games, which will occur from January 22 – February 3, and again on February 26 – March 9.
