FALCONS RALLY TWICE IN THIRD PERIOD

September 30, 2011 - The Springfield Falcons rallied twice from one-goal deficits in the third period on Friday night in a hard-fought 3-2 overtime loss against the Providence Bruins at the New England Sports Complex in Marlborough, MA.  The night once again featured players battling for spots on the regular season roster and the evaluation continues on Saturday when the Falcons host the same Bruins at the MassMutual Center starting at 7 pm.

"We will continue to evaluate the guys in camp and that will continue Saturday," said Falcons head coach Rob Riley.  "You obviously want to win, but we are getting a good chance to see guys that we will need to call-up during the year, we are expecting more players from Columbus this weekend and after tomorrow's game, it's just that time of year in the league."

Trailing 1-0 entering the third period, the Falcons evened the score at 1-1 just 27-seconds into the final frame when Denny Kearney knocked home a Wade MacLeod rebound.  Providence would regain their advantage at 2-1 when Zach Hamill scored just 48-seconds after Kearney had tied the score giving the Bruins momentum once again.

The Falcons battled back again and found the equalizer at 9:12 of the final frame when Andrew Joudrey tallied his first marker of the exhibition schedule set up by MacLeod's second assist of the game.

In the overtime, Hamill won a faceoff directly to Everett Sheen, who quickly wristed a shot past Falcons goaltender Paul Dainton.

Dainton was solid in his Falcons' preseason debut playing the full contest and stopping 31 of 34 shots on goal.

"Paul was good for us tonight," said Riley.  "He's had a very good training camp this month, he played well in Traverse City, he played well up in Columbus and he looked good again tonight."
