ROUND TWO - FALCONS AT WHALE RECAP
October 23, 2011 - The Springfield Falcons concluded a home and home series with the Connecticut Whale on Sunday dropping a 4-1 decision at the XL Center in Hartford, CT. The Falcons will now regroup and get set for a trip to Manchester, NH on Wednesday night.
The Falcons got off to a fast start on Sunday earning three first period power plays, including a five-on-three advantage, but failed to convert and take an opening period lead.
Late in the opening session, Connecticut's Jonathan Audy-Marchessault gave the Whale a 1-0 lead when he scored his second marker of the year at 16:35 of the first period.
In the second period, Connecticut used their power play to take control of the game. Blake Parlett converted on the man advantage at 4:01 of the opening session, followed by Andreas Thuresson's even strength marker just 32-seconds later giving the Whale a three goal cushion. Connecticut used the power play for a second time at 13:24 of the middle stanza when Tommy Grant tallied his first of the campaign extending Connecticut's lead to 4-0.
Late in the second period, the game got a little chippy as Dane Byers and Stu Bickel dropped the gloves after Bickel took a run at Byers. Byers handled himself fine in the scrap scoring the knockdown.
Cam Atkinson scored the Falcons' lone goal setup by Martin St. Pierre and Cody Goloubef concluding the scoring for the night.
