FALCONS DAILY NEWS AND NOTES

November 5, 2011 - The Springfield Falcons have an unusual weekend with no games on Saturday and Sunday, but that doesn't mean players and coaches aren't hard at work preparing for their next opponent.  The team reported to the MassMutual Center Saturday morning for some off-ice workouts, followed by an off-day on Sunday as they recharge their batteries for next weekend.

Some Saturday morning tidbits:

The Falcons had Cam Atkinson recalled by the Columbus Blue Jackets following last night's game.  Atkinson had scored in three straight games before he was recalled to Columbus.  Atkinson has four power play goals on the season and he has seemed to develop a nice chemistry with Martin St. Pierre on the man advantage.

Chaz Johnson also headed back to the ECHL's Chicago Express after Friday's game.  The Falcons were down to 11 healthy forwards on Friday and since the Falcons don't play again until next weekend, it made sense to have Johnson assist Springfield's ECHL affiliate in Chicago this weekend.

On the injury front, Maksim Mayorov and Tomas Kubalik both missed Friday's game.  Both players are day-by-day and with a full week before Springfield's next game, there is some healing time for both players who hope to be back next weekend.

Anton Blomqvist remains out with an upper body injury.  He is also day-to-day.

Adam Mair has completed his 4-game AHL suspension and will return to the lineup next Friday against Portland.

Nick Drazenovic continues to lead the Falcons in scoring with three goals and 11 assists for 14 points in 11 games.  He has collected at least a point in nine of the 11 games he has played.

Martin St. Pierre has points in five straight games collecting two goals and five assists in that span.

One player absent from Saturday's workout was Nick Holden.  Holden's wife Angela is expecting the couple's first child and she is due for delivery any day now.

Off-Day Sunday, enjoy the day, be back with some hockey news Monday!
