FALCONS RALLY FALLS JUST SHORT

January 22, 2012 - The Springfield Falcons dominated the third period on Sunday afternoon in Providence, RI as they tried to erase a three-goal deficit, but in the end the Falcons came up just one goal short dropping a 4-3 decision to the Bruins.  The Falcons held a 16-4 shots advantage in the final 20 minutes and scored a pair of third period goals, but just couldn't get the equalizer despite a flurry of chances in the game's final seconds.

Trailing 4-1 entering the third period, the Falcons wouldn't go down quietly as Andrew Joudrey one-timed his 7th goal of the year past Providence goaltender Anton Khudobin at 9:14 cutting Springfield's deficit to 4-2.  At 17:29 of the final frame, Nick Drazenovic banged home a rebound while on the power play pulling the Falcons to within 4-3.

The Falcons had to play catch-up hockey for most of the night as they fell behind 2-0 in the first period.  Jamie Arniel scored his third goal of the year at 6:28 of the opening frame giving Providence a 1-0 lead.  The Bruins expanded their advantage to 2-0 at 14:18 of the first period when Carter Camper scored his 10th marker on the year.

Early in the second period, Providence built a 3-0 lead when Jordan Caron converted on the man advantage.

At 11:57 of the second period, the Falcons cut their deficit to 3-1 when Theo Ruth tallied his first goal of the year, but Providence regained a three-goal cushion just under three minutes later when Arniel scored his second goal of the game at 14:46 of the second period,
