BUSY SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE NEST

February 19, 2012 - The Springfield Falcons played their third game in three days on Sunday afternoon and dropped a 2-1 decision to the Worcester Sharks at the MassMutual Center.

The Falcons fell behind 2-0 in the first period when Andrew Murray and Nick Petrecki tallied goals 10 minutes apart in the opening frame building a two goal advantage.

The Falcons battled back in the second period and cut their deficit in half as captain Dane Byers scored a power play goal at 9:35 of the middle period, his third straight game with a goal on the weekend.

In the third period, the Falcons had a quality chance to pull even as Alexandre Giroux was awarded a penalty shot, but Worcester goaltender Alex Stalock made the save.

After Sunday's game, the Falcons hosted their annual Booster Club Pizza Party with fans in the meeting rooms of the MassMutual Center.  Falcons players and coaches were in attendance and they had a chance to eat dinner with Booster Club members and sign autographs and take pictures with individuals in attendance after a busy weekend.

Prior to Sunday's game, the Western Mass Knights Adult Sled Hockey Team played in the 3rd Annual Cammer Cup game. The Knights played the Hampden Bank Men’s League team in memory of their late teammate Alex Camerlin.  Alex Camerlin of East Longmeadow passed away weeks before the team was going to take the ice at the Falcons game for the first time as the Western Mass Knights.
