DAINTON NAMED REEBOK/AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

February 27, 2012 – The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today that goaltender Paul Dainton has been named Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, February 26.  Dainton went a perfect 3-0 this past weekend with a 0.97 goals against average and .965 save percentage, including his first AHL shutout on February 25 against the Connecticut Whale.

Dainton is in his first full season of pro hockey and has played in 15 games for the Falcons this year posting a record of 9-4-0 with a 2.68 goals against average and .904 save percentage.  Dainton became the first Falcons goaltender since Scott Langkow to collect three straight wins in three straight days after Dainton won all three starts this past weekend.  Langkow recorded his mark in March of 1998.

Dainton concluded last season with the Falcons after finishing his four-year collegiate career with UMass-Amherst.  The Halifax, Nova Scotia native made his AHL debut on March 23, 2011 at Hartford stopping 31 of 34 shots.  He earned his first AHL win on March 26, 2011 at Worcester turning aside 39 of 41 shots on goal.

In four seasons with the Minutemen, Dainton played in 123 games posting a record of 69-61-12 with a 2.78 goals against average and .908 save percentage.  Dainton served as a captain of UMass-Amherst during the 2010-11 campaign.

In recognition of his achievement, Dainton will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Falcons home game.
