FALCONS BEAT ICECAPS 3-1
April 14, 2012 - The Springfield Falcons ended their season in style beating the St. John's IceCaps 3-1 in front of 4,896 at the MassMutual Center on Saturday night. The Falcons ended the year with a mark of 36-34-3-3, their highest win total since the 1997-98 season. Springfield also ended the campaign 11-1-1-1 in their last 14 home games.
It was energetic crowd at The Nest on Saturday and at 9:42 of the first period, Alexandre Giroux tallied his 28th marker of the year giving the Falcons an early 1-0 lead.
The Falcons carried their one-goal lead into the second period, and at 4:44, Daniel New collected his first pro/AHL goal giving Springfield a 2-0 advantage in the middle frame.
Springfield carried a two-goal edge into the third period and at 12:48 of the final period, rookie Boone Jenner tallied his first pro/AHL marker giving the Birds a 3-0 cushion.
Falcons goaltender Manny Legace started the contest stopping the first 11 shots before splitting the duties with Mike Clemente, who stopped 21 of 22 shots in 30 minutes of action.
