FALCONS FALL IN PORTLAND 4-1

January 4, 2009 - The Springfield Falcons lost to the Portland Pirates 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine.  The Falcons will next host Binghamton on Wednesday night at the MassMutual Center.  

SUNDAY'S BOX SCORE

After a scoreless first period, the Pirates took a 1-0 lead early in the second period when Nathan Gerbe scored just 55-seconds into the middle frame.  Portland took a 2-0 lead at 9:33 of the second period when Keith Johnson scored his first goal of the season.  The Pirates took a 3-0 lead at 17:41 of the second stanza when Trent Campbell tallied his second marker of the year.

In the third period, Taylor Chorney cut Springfield's deficit to 3-1 with a power play goal at 5:43, but Portland answered with an empty net marker to conclude the evening.
