Student Prince Cafe and Fort Restuarant present Throwback Thursday: Tavis Hansen
Former right wing Tavis Hansen played six seasons with the Springfield Falcons from 1995-2001. In his time with the franchise, Hansen played in 298 games, which ranks third in the team’s 20-year history. The Prince Albert, Saskatchewan native also ranks sixth in franchise history in points (158), fourth in goals (79), ninth in assists (79), fifth in power-play goals (25) and fifth in penalty minutes (508).
Hansen totaled 34 NHL games in his career, all with Springfield’s NHL affiliates. A third-round selection, 58th overall, in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, he began his pro career at the age of 19 with one game for the Winnipeg Jets at the end of the 1994-95 season. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound forward had spent the season to that point with the Tacoma Rockets of the Western Hockey League, recording 73 points (32 goals, 41 assists) and 142 penalty minutes.
The remainder of Hansen’s NHL experience came with the Phoenix Coyotes. In 34 total NHL games, he accumulated three points (two goals, one assist) a -5 rating and 16 penalty minutes.
After his time in Springfield, Hansen continued his professional career in the AHL with the Hershey Bears in 2001-02 and with the Cleveland Barons in 2002-03 and 2003-04. He then moved on to play overseas in Austria with Innsbruck HC for two seasons (2005-06, 2006-07) before hanging up the skates.
