The Springfield Falcons (47-21-1-5) defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers by the final score of 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Webster Bank Arena, matching a franchise record with 100 points this season.
Sean Collins scored the game-winning goal with just six seconds remaining in regulation, redirecting a Patrick McNeill shot past Bridgeport netminder Kevin Poulin and into the net. For Collins, it was his 16th goal, 39th point and third game-winner this season.
After Justin Hickman’s first-period tally gave the Sound Tigers a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play, Springfield captain Ryan Craig answered in the second period with a power-play goal at the 14:28 mark, his 18th score of the season. Craig now has 35 power-play goals as a member of the Falcons, adding to his own franchise record. The Abbotsford, British Columbia native also assisted on Collins’ tally, giving him a game-high two points Sunday.
Springfield netminder Anton Forsberg made 28 saves on 29 shots en route to his third win in as many appearances this season. Forsberg is now 3-0-0 with a 1.34 goals-against average and .952 save percentage in three starts since joining the club from Modo of the Swedish Hockey League.
Poulin stopped 36 of 38 shots in a losing effort, falling to 1-11-1 this season.
The Falcons went 2-for-3 on the power-play, while the Sound Tigers went 0-for-4. Springfield outshot Bridgeport, 38-29.
With the victory and two additional points, the Falcons matched a franchise mark with 100 points in a single season, previously done only by the 1995-96 club.
The Falcons are back in action Friday, April 18 when they visit the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7:00 p.m. The team then closes out the regular season Saturday, April 19 in Albany to take on the Devils.
