The Springfield Falcons (12-3-0-1) extended their win streak to five games Saturday night with a 4-0 victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack, as goaltender Mike McKenna recorded the team’s first shutout of the season.
McKenna stopped all 15 shots he faced, blanking the Wolf Pack to improve to 5-2-0 this season.
Team captain Ryan Craig chipped in two assists, passing Scott Levins for 10th on the Falcons all-time points list. The Abbotsford, British Columbia native now has 115 points in a Falcons uniform.
Springfield scored two power-play goals Saturday night for the fourth time in the last five games. Andrew Joudrey beat Hartford netminder Jason Missiaen on the door step off of a feed from Ryan Craig at 11:25 of the second period to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead. Patrick McNeill added the other goal on the man advantage, firing a slap shot from the left circle that found the back of the net at 18:49 of the third period. McNeill’s first goal of the season extended Springfield’s lead to 4-0.
Ilari Melart gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead at 1:07 of the second period, leading an odd-man rush and flipping a wrister past Missiaen. For Melart, the score was his first as a pro in North America and would serve as the game-winner.
