The Springfield Falcons (3-0-0-0) won their third consecutive game to begin the 2013-14 season, defeating the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (1-3-0-0) Sunday afternoon at Webster Bank Arena by the final score of 3-1.

Tim Erixon continued his stellar play since being loaned to the Falcons Friday, adding a goal and an assist on the game-winning goal. In only two games this season, Erixon has totaled five points (one goal, four assists) and a +4 rating.
Darryl Boyce scored the first goal of the game on the penalty kill, receiving a centering feed from Trent Vogelhuber and beating Bridgeport netminder Kenny Reiter to give the Falcons a 1-0 edge at 14:42 of the first period. Boyce’s tally was the second shorthanded goal for the Falcons in as many days.
Michael Chaput added a power-play score before the end of the first period, firing a wrist shot from the right circle over the shoulder of Reiter and into the back of the net for the eventual game-winning goal. For Chaput, the goal was his second of the season and first game-winner. Reiter allowed three goals, making 22 saves on 25 shots.
Goaltender Mike McKenna made his Springfield debut and earned the victory in his first start of the season, making 20 saves on 21 shots faced between the pipes for the Falcons. McKenna held the Sound Tigers scoreless for 55:40 before Johan Sundstrom netted the lone Bridgeport goal.
Springfield had success on special teams Sunday afternoon, scoring a power-play goal and a shorthanded goal for the second consecutive night. The Falcons were 1-for-5 with the man advantage. Bridgeport could not convert on any of their six power plays but did add a shorthanded goal as well.
The Falcons continue their road trip Friday, October 18 when they visit Providence to take on the Bruins for the first of 10 meetings between the two teams in 2013-14. The team is back at the MassMutual Center Saturday, October 26 to host the Worcester Sharks at 7:00 p.m.
