The Springfield Falcons announced Monday that defenseman Thomas Larkin – in the first year of a three-year NHL entry-level contract with Columbus – was reassigned and Joe Lavin – on a one-year AHL contract with Springfield – was loaned to the Evansville IceMen, the team’s ECHL affiliate.
Neither Larkin nor Lavin has seen action with Springfield so far in the early beginnings of the 2013-14 season. With the addition of Tim Erixon – who was loaned to the Falcons Friday, October 11 – the team had 10 defensemen on the active roster before Monday’s transaction.
Larkin played seven games for the Falcons at the end of the 2012-13 season after finishing his four-year career at Colgate University. Lavin played the past two seasons for the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs before signing with Springfield this summer.
The Falcons are back in action Friday, October 18 when they visit Providence to take on the Bruins for the first of 10 meetings between the two teams in 2013-14. The team’s next home game at the MassMutual Center is Saturday, October 26 versus the Worcester Sharks at 7:00 p.m.
