COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS RE-SIGN CENTER SEAN COLLINS
Collins signs a one-year, two-way NHL/AHL contract for the 2014-15 season
COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have re-signed center Sean Collins to a one-year, two-way (NHL/AHL) contract for the 2014-15 season, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. As is club policy, further terms were not disclosed.
Collins, 25, appeared in six games with the Blue Jackets last season, tallying one assist, six shots on goal, nine hits and a +1 plus/minus rating. He also recorded 16-25-41 and 34 penalty minutes in 67 games with the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons. Columbus’ ninth pick, 187th overall at the 2008 NHL Draft, Collins has registered 0-1-1, 6 PIM in 11 career games with the Blue Jackets and 27-49-77, 58 PIM in 139 career games with the Falcons.
A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Collins spent four seasons at Cornell University (2008-12), amassing 30-27-57 and 62 PIM in 136 career games with the Big Red and capturing an ECAC championship in 2010. He was named to the conference’s All-Academic Team in 2008-09 and served as Cornell’s alternate captain in 2011-12. The 6-1, 200-pound center spent two seasons with the Waywayseecappo Wolverines of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League prior to his college career, recording 72-99-171, 86 PIM in 119 career games. He won the league’s Rookie of the Year award in 2006-07 and earned Second Team All-Star honors in 2007-08.
