The Springfield Falcons announced Tuesday that defenseman Ilari Melart has been loaned to Ugra Khanty-Mansiysk of the KHL.
Melart signed a one-year NHL entry-level contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets May 24. The 24-year-old Finnish product was assigned to Springfield September 28 and appeared in 24 games with the Falcons, totaling three points (one goal, two assists) and 28 penalty minutes.
The 6-foot-3, 227-pound defenseman scored his first pro goal in North America November 23 versus the Hartford Wolf Pack. Melart spent the previous five seasons playing for HIFK Helsinki in Finland.
The first-place Falcons prepare for back-to-back road tests this weekend – Friday, December 20 at the Providence Bruins and Saturday, December 21 at the Hartford Wolf Pack.
