The Springfield Falcons (25-6-1-3) fell to the Albany Devils by the final score of 3-0 Friday night at the MassMutual Center, snapping the team’s four-game win streak.
Scott Wedgewood stopped all 21 shots he faced in net for Albany, handing Springfield only its second shutout of the season and first since November 8 versus the Adirondack Phantoms.
Devils captain Rod Pelley had a goal and an assist, and finished the contest with a +2 rating. The Kitimat, British Columbia native scored the game-winning goal at 9:30 of the first period. Joe Whitney and Artem Demkov scored the insurance goals for Albany.
Falcons goaltender Jeremy Smith made 23 saves on 26 shots, falling for the first time in his last four starts. Smith is now 16-5-2 this season.
Despite the loss, the Falcons maintain the best points percentage in the American Hockey League at .771. The team is just .004 percentage points shy of the pace for the best record in league history, set by the 1992-93 Binghamton Rangers.
The Falcons hit the road to take on the Hershey Bears Saturday, January 11 at the Giant Center. The team returns to the MassMutual Center Sunday, January 12 to host the Norfolk Admirals at 3:00 p.m.
