The Springfield Falcons announced Thursday that goaltender Mike McKenna has been recalled under emergency conditions by the Columbus Blue Jackets, the team’s NHL affiliate.
McKenna, 30, has appeared in four games with Columbus this season, posting a 1-1-1 record with a 3.01 goals-against average and .904 save percentage. In 21 career NHL games between the Blue Jackets, Tampa Bay Lightning and New Jersey Devils, the St. Louis, Missouri native is 5-10-2 with a 3.40 goals-against average, .891 save percentage and one shutout.
With Springfield this season, McKenna is 20-8-1 with three shutouts. His 2.30 goals-against average ranks seventh among all American Hockey League goaltenders, while his .920 save percentage ranks ninth. McKenna was named the CMM/AHL Goaltender of the Month for November of 2013.
The Falcons are back in action Friday, March 28 when they visit the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7:00 p.m. The team returns to the MassMutual Center Friday, April 11 to host the Portland Pirates at 7:00 p.m.
