LAST WEEK’S GAME RECAPS

---SPRINGFIELD AT MANCHESTER, OCTOBER 7 – L- 5-2---

October 7, 2011 - The Springfield Falcons opened their 2011-12 regular season on Friday night in Manchester, NH and dropped a 5-2 decision to the Monarchs.  Alexandre Giroux and Cody Bass both scored for the Falcons, while goaltender Paul Dainton made 24 saves between the pipes.  The Falcons will travel to Albany, NY on Saturday to take on the Devils.

The first ten minutes of the games was very evenly played with the two teams exchanging power play opportunities, but it was Manchester that used the man advantage to open the scoring.  Justin Azevedo converted on the power play at 9:57 of the first period giving the Monarchs a 1-0 lead.  At 12:20 of the opening frame, Marc-Andre Cliche scored his first goal of the night giving Manchester a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Just 14-seconds into the second period,  Cliche would strike again when his slap shot from the right wing boards beat Dainton expanding the Monarchs' advantage to 3-0.  Cliche would conclude the natural hat trick at 6:45 of the second period giving Manchester a four goal cushion.

The Falcons would battle back at 18:11 of the middle frame when Giroux tallied his first marker of the year assisted by Martin St. Pierre and Tomas Kubalik.

Springfield continued their momentum from Giroux's goal into the third period as Bass was set up by John Moore and Nick Drazenovic just 1:02 into the final period cutting the Falcons' deficit to 5-2.

---SPRINGFIELD At ALBANY, OCTOBER 8 – W- 6-3---

October 8, 2011 - The Springfield Falcons used six different goal scorers and a 27-save effort from goaltender Allen York to earn their first win of the 2011-12 season, a 6-3 triumph over the Albany Devils in Albany, NY.  Aaron Bogosian, Nick Holden, Brent Regner, Nick Drazenovic, Cody Bass and Dane Byers all scored for the Falcons in the victory.  The Falcons are now 1-1 on the young season.

"This was a good team victory tonight," said Falcons head coach Rob Riley.  "We had everyone contribute tonight, all of our lines chipped in with the offense and Allen (York) was solid in goal.  It feels good to get the win and bounce back from last night."

After falling behind 1-0 on a Darcy Zajac goal, the Falcons rallied for three unanswered goals in the first period to build a 3-1 advantage after 20 minutes.

With the Devils holding on to some early game momentum, Bogosian tied the score at 1-1 for Springfield with a beautiful slap shot from the left wing circle at 7:28 of the first period.  With momentum back on the Falcons' side, Holden gave Springfield a 2-1 lead with a power play goal at 9:44, set up by Martin St. Pierre.  The Falcons built a 3-1 lead when Regner tallied his first of the year at 16:55 of the opening session.

In the second period, the Falcons expanded their lead to 4-1 when Drazenovic scored his first goal of the year assisted by Byers and Adam Mair.  Albany cut their deficit to 4-2 at 4:49 of the middle period when Matt Anderson tallied his first of the year, but the Falcons Bass converted on the power play at 9:02 of the second period to regain Springfield's three goal cushion.

Once again in the third period, Albany cut their deficit to two goals when Matthew Corrente recorded his first marker of the year, but Byers halted any Albany comeback thoughts when he knocked home a rebound late in the final frame.
