FALCONS ACQUIRE GREG AMADIO FROM GRAND RAPIDS
--Sign Defenseman Brett Motherwell To A PTO Contract--
Springfield, MA – The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today that they have acquired defenseman Greg Amadio from the Grand Rapids Griffins in exchange for forward Mike Thomas. Amadio is expected to join the Falcons in Portland for their game Friday night against the Pirates. The Falcons also announced they have signed defenseman Brett Motherwell to a Professional Tryout Agreement.
Amadio spent the entire 2010-11 campaign with Grand Rapids appearing in 74 games collecting two goals and four assists for six points and 230 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario led the Griffins in penalty minutes last year and he was also tied for the club lead in games played by a defenseman.
Before arriving in Grand Rapids, Amadio spent two seasons with the Hershey Bears from 2008-2010 helping the Bears to back-to-back Calder Cup Championships. Amadio is a veteran of 419 career AHL contests totaling 42 points and 1,158 penalty minutes.
Motherwell has appeared in 14 games for the Falcons’ ECHL affiliate, the Chicago Express, this year collecting four assists. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound native of St. Charles, Illinois spent the 2010-11 campaign with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers collecting four goals and 14 assists for 18 points in 60 games.
