MARKIEWICZ MOVING ON

MARKIEWICZ MOVING ON
By Mike Mitchell, Creative Services Coordinator

When I started with the Falcons as a game operations intern, Damon Markiewicz had only been a part of the team for a few years. Now, there aren’t many who can say they’ve been on the Falcons staff for longer than him. It’s bittersweet and here in the front office we want totake a moment and announce that he’s moving on.

Starting as an intern in 1996 with the game ops and promotions department, Damon was appointed Manager of Media and Community Relations prior to the start of the 2000-01 season. It was a few years after that he moved on to “the show” with the NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes as their Web Editorial Director. After Phoenix, he was named General Manager of the UHL’s Adirondack Frostbite before returning to the Falcons for the 05-06 season. And he’s been here ever since.

When asked what his favorite memory was of the team during his time here, Markiewicz mentioned the 96-97 season when the team made it to the Calder Cup semifinals.

Having known him the longest, Bruce Landon sums it up best:

“I am very happy for Damon as he starts his new career.  He has been an outstanding employee who cared deeply about our franchise.  He never worried about hours and there was no job that he was not willing to do.  He was an important part of our organization in many ways and he will be missed, but he is moving on to a position that I am sure he is going to enjoy and excel at.  We wish him, Laura and Cam nothing but the best. “

When asked about leaving the organization, Markiewicz said “I will always be a Falcons fan and can't wait to support the team enjoying games with my family.  I will always consider the Falcons staff, fans and sponsors members of my extended family and it's been a privilege working for a man like Bruce Landon.  He is not only a great boss, but a great friend too.”

Starting out as an intern myself, having the opportunity to work with and learn from a guy like Damon, I can say with certainty, it’s been my privilege as well. Good luck Damon.
